Ceiling Fans

ceiling
Ceiling fans are very popular because they are extremely useful and efficient. Ceiling fans work to cool your home in summer and they also efficiently circulate heat in the wintertime. The popularity of ceiling fans rests in the fact that one appliance can benefit both the heating and the cooling systems in a house.

In its simplest form a ceiling fan is nothing more than a ceiling mounted fan with an attached light fixture. Some ceiling fans are more elaborate then others in terms of design elements as well as in terms of functions. Generally a ceiling fan will have controls to vary the speed of the fan from slower to faster speeds; a direction control so the fan can be made to go clockwise or counter clockwise (this affects the direction the air moves in), as well as a method of turning the light on and off. Often you'll find a dimmer as well to provide different levels of lighting.

Ceiling fans are used for cooling indoor space in the hot season. A ceiling fan run counter-clockwise works to move air. The air being pushed around the room acts as a cooling breeze; though the temperature in the room may not actually be lowered, people in the room will feel the breeze and feel cooler. Just keeping the air moving is often a plus in summer months. In winter, the ceiling fan is used to make a room feel warmer. Because heat rises, it moves toward the ceiling in a room. In a room with high ceilings, this can mean that all the warm air is way above head level, and the space that people actually occupy is relatively cold and uncomfortable. A ceiling fan, running clockwise, will act to push the warm air downward. Many homeowners find that running a ceiling fan in winter mode is so effective at making the most of heat that they can actually turn down their thermostat – which leads to even great energy savings, not to mention cost savings.
